WHY DO WE FAIL?

WHY DO WE FAIL?

WAR AGAINST “THE WILL TO FAIL”

I have been on a global project across three regions of the world for few months now and sharing this experience could be stimulus needed to transform a life.

In May 2021, an International organisation published a tender seeking digital researcher. Recall that COVID-19 has created new opportunities around digital skills (In period of rapid change, learners inherit the earth). I went through the tender and concluded it was not for me.

Few days later, I got a call from a representative of an organisation I had delivered a consultancy service through a digital platform. “Did you see the tender and have you submitted a response?” In my humble reply, I said, I was not sure if I had the capacity to deliver on the project. It was a project across three regions in the world. So I had no history doing similar project.

To cut the story short, he reminded me that I had all it takes and I should build my story around my digital skills and previous deliverables.

It turned out that I won it.

WHY DO WE FAIL?

Every human being nurses something Dorothea Brande called, “The Will to Fail”. No matter our level of success, when something new emerges especially challenges, our first reaction seems to be defensive.

We fail to apply into an uncharted territory believing that we do not want to be seen as unqualified. We do not want to be rejected. Do we lose anything if we apply? I think the answer will be NO. Do we gain anything if we apply? I think the answer will be YES.

My finding is that, there are few people or organizations that had won the war against “The Will to Fail” especially when a complex problem demands attention. Complex problems attract huge financial reward I must admit.

HOW DO YOU SOLVE COMPLEX PROBLEM?

In transforming yourself, there is a need to invest in mentorship. There is no reason to re-invent the wheel especially when you do not have the luxury of resources to do so. Working with a mentor gives you opportunity to access framework that works.

According to World Economic Forum, solving complex problem is number 1 skill among the top 10 skills needed in the world today. This ongoing global research breathes life into my role and the essence of creating self-actualization mentoring academy.

Waooo, this is interesting. It is a secret which I have been battling with. I have the fear to attempt new opportunities thinking of the end result if I fail, how people will feel about my failure.

THE WILL TO FAIL is in not TRYING my SHOT; and not building myself up on the most noble characters of men!
