Dear friend,
You cannot force anyone to listen to you. People listen to those who build new models that make existing models obsolete.
It is very hard to take anything away from somebody including their attention without replacing it with something of equivalent or higher value.
It is the nature of humans to gravitate towards newness. This is the rationale behind the theory that says, “Expenses rise as income grows”. You just want to spend resources on new things.
There are two elements that work against fortune:
- Weakness of Attention
- Poverty of Imagination
Success is about people. You cannot succeed without the people listening to you. They listen to you through your energy, tone of voice, words and body language. To be a man or a woman of fortune, you must cure the two diseases.
To begin with, understand that, “An idea that is 10 percent novel is enough to guarantee fortune.”
Why do we lay to rest or bury our ideas?
Fortune comes from ideas but ideas do not usually come fully formed to us from the higher power known as GOD.
Everything of great value is encrusted. The partial revelation constitutes the major reason human beings exhibit weaknesses of Attention and Poverty of Imagination.
Fortune comes from the awareness that our ideas get more clearer when we work on it. This is the road less travelled.
Dr. Wernher Von Braun, the great space architect and aerospace engineer was asked by the former president of America John F. Kennedy, the question:
“What would be needed to build a rocket that could carry a man to the moon and bring him back safely to the earth?”
Dr. Wernher Von Braun understood where fortune came from and that solutions would not come fully formed. And in five words, he answered the president, “The will to do it.”
Eight years after the discussion, the entire world celebrated Neil Armstrong “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
Most of the time, our ‘ignore-ance’ of the concentrated attention that ideas deserve, is a major challenge to success in today’s world of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.
If you want fortune enough, give your idea your time.
If you know the impact it will make, give your idea your life.
You will succeed!
